I lived on the 17th (top) floor of Kestrel House EC1 for 6 years and on the 13th floor of another tower block before that. I’ve lived in local authority owned housing for most of my life. I was born and raised in a council house. When I was a kid, everyone I knew lived in a council house. My nan was up the road, my cousins round the corner. And now Jr and I live on a close knit, multi-generational estate
I’ve been thinking of all my friends, former neighbours, and everyone still living with the worry of how they’re gonna to get out in an emergency. The fear and helplessness the victims and the onlookers felt on Tuesday night is unimaginable.
I’ve never been more thankful for my own front door…
