a meditation on alienation from the natural world

This is an installation and performance articulating the artist’s preoccupation with what appears to be a pervasive ambivalence towards threatened ecological armageddon. In it, a glasshouse containing the essential ingredients for life sits in the centre of the gallery. The interior surfaces of the glass panes are painted white. A pendant lamp illuminates the exhibits within. The occupant struggles with writing in reverse script, scratching out messages for the viewer. Warmed by the heat of the lamp: a vessel of water and a stick of pure carbon. The exhibits are off limits, viewed through the words scratched into the painted glass. The glasshouse glows in the dark…
