A meditation on site, place and land; access, ownership and stewardship; making reference to the ancient Wassail tradition of toasting.
An act of trespass, in the spirit of the commons, memorialising a group of trees illegally felled to make way for housing, marking their stumps in a violent act using 9-inch nails and a loaf of bread.
By making charcoal from the remains of the fallen trees, traces of them live on in my sketchbook and studio.
